Backup your critical files, and you're working on like your final paper, thesis etc to an external hard drive, dvd, 5 1/4 diskette, thumb drive etc. The last thing you want is drop your computer leaving the lan and loose something important.
Update your computer over at Windows Update to get the latest patches
(optional) Update to the latest version of DirectX. These are non critical updates so most computers don't auto update it
(optional) Update your graphics driver. There are seperate sites for Desktop users and laptop users.
If you want to play TF2 and Counter Strike you will need to get Steam, install it and create a free account. (and join our steam group if you like)
Check out these links to see if you qualify for some free games like Half-life 2 Deathmatch on steam.
If you don't own TF2, Counter Strike Source or Half-life 2 Deathmatch and want to play them at the LAN, NOW! is the time to buy and install them. We will be runing anticheating software on our game servers so pirated copies will not work. Do the right thing and buy the games you want to play.
(optional) Clean up all of the crap on your hard drive using CCleaner. Use at your own risk (I've never had any problem with it)
(optional) Defragment your hard drive.
Plan ahead how to get to the lan and how you are going to fit your computer safely in your car.
On friday before you pack up your computer. Test all of the games you think you might play and make sure they are fully updated and working. Internet at the LAN will be VERY slow.
If you have any questions, post them using the comments link below.
I don't know how I feel about this. I mean it's a cool idea but an achievement system. Read the full story and comment on if you think it is cool or not
Are you serious?! Red Faction is back? Yes, you are correct. Red Faction: Guerilla will be out sometime in 2009. For those of you who don't know Red Faction was one of my favorite FPSs. The game was ground breaking based on the physics engine that anything could be destroyed! The original game took place in a mine where you could blast to any other part of the level if you wanted by simply finding bombs or a rocket launcher and blowing up the rock around you! Yes, if you got bored and shot out the ceiling the whole level would cave on you (which was extremely fun to watch your character get squished!). The hammer, which never left your side, was the weapon of choice when it came to exploration. However, the game was still very linear. Red Faction: Guerilla is said to be more exploratory and open-ended. You can read the full story on IGN .
I recommend anyone running Vista to Update. As a general precauation back-up any critical term papers, your thesis etc. before updgrading. You can run windows update or you can download it directly

This news caught me by suprise. I hope no one here had money in this.
Effective immediately, the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) will cease operations. Therefore, all CPL events currently scheduled for 2008 are hereby canceled.
The CPL was launched in June 1997 with the pioneering mission of promoting and sanctioning video game competitions as a professional sport. For ten years the CPL events experienced increased growth - commencing with a small LAN event in Dallas, Texas, and culminating in world-class competitions across five continents.
However, the current fragmentation of the sport, a crowded field of competing leagues, and the current economic climate have prompted the CPL to suspend its pro-tournament operations. The CPL regrets that this news will disappoint those that were planning on attending the summer and winter events this year.
Many thanks to all of the sponsors and partners that helped CPL establish the groundwork for professional video game competitions. Their vision and pioneering spirit should always be remembered.
You have got to be kidding me. Prince of Persia: THE MOVIE????? Ok, have we seen the list of great video game movies: Doom (loved the FPS part), Halo (Still in development, not really?), Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, among others. I'll be the first to admit that I loved the new versions of the game (that chain was off the chain! sorry...) and am ready for the fourth installment, but a movie?
What do you think? Will it be any good? If you could make any game into a movie which one and why? I'd pick Wii sports, just cause I can!
I can't wait until Starcraft 2 comes out! Yes, I was one of the few who was sad when Starcraft:Ghost was cancelled. It had the potential to be AMAZING! Especially because Blizzard was behind it. Anways, check out this story for more drool-worthy screens.
So I was on Shacknews tonight and saw that Valve is thinking about
creating Counter-Strike 2?
I don't know about you but it seems as if
Valve keeps CS:Source pretty updated, even when new things come along.
Not sure what they could add. Read more about it here
If they were to create CS2 what would you want in it? I was thinking trip mines that look bunnies, cute cuddly bunnies.
